Unusa and IUC Malaysia Forge Strategic Academic Partnership

Surabaya – Universitas Nahdlatul Ulama Surabaya (Unusa) warmly welcomes an honorary visit from Prof. Sheikh Dr. Omar Kalash, Vice Rector for Academic and Internationalisation of Innovative University College (IUC) Malaysia, on Wednesday (April 30). The visit aims to explore strategic cooperation between the two institutions.

The visit was receives by Unusa’s Vice Rector for Human Resources and Finance and attended by prominent figures from Nahdlatul Ulama East Java, including Kyai Nur Rohmad, M.Pd., who serves as a Board Member of Aswaja NU Center East Java and PWNU Mojokerto. Also present are Mr. Abdurrahman Hanif and Mr. Muhammad Naufal.

During a discussion held in the Rector’s Meeting Room, 8th Floor, Tower Campus B Unusa, both parties explores various opportunities for collaboration, particularly in academic and religious fields. IUC is an institution focusing on Islamic education, sharing a common vision with Unusa, which upholds Ahlussunnah wal Jamaah An-Nahdliyah values.

One tangible collaboration plan agrees upon is a Hajj guidance training program for students and professionals. This program will leverage Unusa’s cooperation with Rumah Sakit Haji Sukolilo Surabaya one of Unusa’s partner hospitals allowing the training to be carried out comprehensively, combining medical, service, and religious aspects.

Ir. Muhammad Faqih, M.SA., Ph.D., states that this collaboration is an important step in expanding Unusa’s international reach while strengthening its capacity to produce outstanding human resources in religious and health sectors. “We greatly welcome this Hajj guidance training initiative, as it aligns with Unusa’s academic competencies and directly contributes to community service,” he said.

Meanwhile, Prof. Sheikh Dr. Omar Kalash expresses that the synergy between IUC and Unusa is highly strategic, especially in building a network of practical Islamic education. “We hope this meeting marks the beginning of many beneficial collaborations that will benefit both institutions and the wider Muslim community,” he remarked.

This visit is expected to pave the way for a long-term partnership between Unusa and IUC, strengthening their cooperation in academic development, research, and inclusive, knowledge-based Islamic education.
