Cultural Exchange and New Experiences Mark ASEAN Student Mobility Programme at UUM

Malaysia – February 20th, 2025 Samhana Fitria, an undergraduate Nursing student from Universitas Nahdlatul Ulama Surabaya (Unusa), shares her excitement and experiences during participating in the ASEAN Student Mobility Programme at Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM). The event brings together students from across ASEAN countries to foster cultural exchange and regional collaboration.

“It is a great start to the day because we get to enjoy quick performances from each country. Our turn is quite special—we have to introduce Pancasila to everyone. It is fun and a meaningful way to share a part of Indonesian culture.” said samhana

Following the opening events, student buddies guided participants on a comprehensive campus tour, highlighting UUM’s vast facilities spanning approximately 10 kilometers. The first stop is the Pusat Sukan (Sports Center), boasting impressive amenities such as a multi-gym, stadium, diverse sports fields, go-kart track, e-sports facilities, swimming pool, and a renowned golf course, which is considered one of Malaysia’s best academic programs in the sport.

The tour continues with a visit to the university library, known for its spacious study areas and regularly updated collection of books. Participants also explore the UUM Management Museum, which offered an informative glimpse into the university’s history and Malaysia’s rich cultural heritage.

Another highlight of the tour was U-Assist, a dedicated support center for international students, offering assistance with sponsorships, visa matters, academic guidance, and mental health services, including access to psychological support and well-being campaigns.

After a break for lunch at noon, participants reconvene in the afternoon at the College of Arts and Sciences. Students are divided into seven groups, with Samhana joining the first group for a photography workshop. The session conclude with an assignment that challenge participants to capture meaningful photographs accompanied by compelling stories, to be presented within three days. (nrl/genus)
