Unusa Strengthens Internationalization By Participating as Co-Host : Three Faculty Members Present Papers at the 2024 International Office Conference

Yogyakarta – Universitas Nahdlatul Ulama Surabaya (Unusa) continues to solidify its international footprint by actively participating in the prestigious International Office Conference (IOC) 2024. The three-day event, held from November 28th to 30th, 2024, at the Royal Ambarrukmo Hotel, Yogyakarta, brought together 50 participants from higher education institutions in Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines, showcasing its global dimension.

A proud moment for Unusa during the conference is the selection of three of its faculty members to present their research papers in parallel sessions. The selected presenters include Syiddatul Budury from Global Engagement of Universitas Nahdlatul Ulama Surabaya (Genus), Dr. Hotimah Masdan Salim from the Faculty of Medicine, and Rudi Umar Susanto from the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education. Their papers are chosen after a rigorous selection process, underscoring their academic excellence on the global stage.

Dr. Wiwik Afridah, M.Kes., Director of Planning, Development, and Cooperation (Renbangkermal) at Unusa, expressed her pride in this achievement. “The participation of our faculty in this international event demonstrates that the quality of academic research produced by Unusa is globally competitive,” she said.

She further emphasized that this success aligns with Unusa’s vision to become a world-class university excelling not only in education but also in research and community engagement.

The conference serves as an important platform for academicians from various countries to exchange knowledge, experiences, and ideas on higher education development. With its theme addressing global challenges, the event aims to provide innovative solutions for issues faced by higher education institutions in the era of globalization.

During the parallel sessions, Syiddatul Budury presented her study on the lived experiences of Timor Leste students in cultural diversity. Dr. Hotimah Masdan Salim discussed her latest research on understanding the psychological well-being of international students at private universities in Surabaya, Indonesia. Meanwhile, Rudi Umar Susanto shares his insights on innovations in teaching Indonesian to foreign students through culturally responsive pedagogical approaches.

The participation of Unusa in the IOC 2024 is part of its broader strategy to expand its international network and strengthen its position as a university attuned to global changes. “This conference not only serves as a platform for presenting research but also paves the way for broader international collaborations. We hope this will be a stepping stone for Unusa to continue growing and contributing to global higher education,” Wiwik added.

Besides the parallel sessions, the representative of Unusa also leverages the opportunity to establish communication with various international universities present at the event. The university hopes the conference will lead to concrete collaborations in research, student exchange programs, and the development of international curricula.

The event is also attended by Unusa’s Rector, Prof. Dr. Ir. Achmad Jazidie, M.Eng., further highlighting the institution’s commitment to its international agenda.

With this achievement, Unusa has further cemented its status as a higher education institution with competitiveness not only on a national level but also with significant influence in the global arena.
