Introducing Indonesian Traditional Games to International Students

Surabaya – On Friday, August 30th, 2024, the basement of Unusa Tower is filled with laughter and excitement as international students from various countries, including Thailand, Timor-Leste, the Philippines, Egypt, Malaysia, Morocco, Pakistan, Somalia, Tajikistan, Yemen, and Zimbabwe, gathere to participate in traditional Indonesian games. These students come from multiple institutions such as Naresuan University, Universitas Nahdlatul Ulama Surabaya, Universitas Islam Negeri Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang, Universitas Negeri Malang, Universitas Wijaya Kusuma Surabaya, Universitas Airlangga, Universitas UIN Sunan Ampel, and Politeknik Negeri Malang.

The event, part of the 4th Brave! Program, aim to introduce participants to the vibrant culture of Indonesia in celebration of the country’s 79th Independence Day. The games include exciting activities such as the Rubber Race, Sarong Race, “Nyunggi Tempeh” (balancing a bamboo tray on the head), Sack Race, and Ping-Pong Ball Race. Each game emphasizes teamwork, creating a fun and energetic atmosphere as the students cheered each other on.

The competition is fierce but fun, with a prize of IDR 300,000 for first place and IDR 250,000 for second place in each game. The day is not only about games but also about sharing Indonesian culture through traditional food and drinks. Participants are treated to delicious local dishes like sate, tahu campur, es dawet, cendol, and many more.

The event is a wonderful opportunity for cultural exchange and community building, leaving all participants with unforgettable memories. (nrl/admin)
