Surabaya – In order to implement the realization about how importance of molecular biology education, Universitas Nahdlatul Ulama University Surabaya (UNUSA) lecturers held an online workshop on basic molecular techniques for 77 Vocational High School (SMK) teachers in Indonesia, particularly in medical health sector.
This workshop was conducted by two lecturers from UNUSA, Mrs Maharani Pertiwi K. Ph.D from the faculty of Health Analyst and dr. Adyan Donastin, Sp.P. from the Faculty of Medicine. This activity is one of online network community services through zoom application.
As UNUSA representatives, Mrs Maharani Pertiwi K. Ph.D expressed that this activity was held in order to increase the teaching staff (Vocational High School (SMK) teachers of medical health sector in Indonesia) capability, so, they will capable to teach their students with the latest knowledge of Molecular Biology. This activity were attended by 77 vocational health teachers from different places in Indonesia such as East Java, Central Java, South Sulawesi, North Sulawesi, North Sumatra, DKI Jakarta, Aceh, Gorontalo, Lampung, West Nusa Tenggara, South Sumatra and West Papua.
“Furthermore, this tutoring activity will encourage our participants to learn more about Molecular Biology, such as basic molecular techniques for Multi Drug Resistance-Tuberculosis (MDR-TB) detection, in case to treat TB problems in Indonesia,” Mrs Maharani said that on Thursday (27/8).
Mrs Maharani also explained, “The materials that have been presented were dogma in Molecular Biology, Molecular Biology Techniques, including DNA Isolation from Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), Electrophoresis, and DNA Sequencing. It’s an honor to take the responsibilities. To be honest, the training will be hold at the Molecular Biology Laboratory, Faculty of Health, UNUSA, but, however, the covid-19 pandemic still spread over around us, so we should creating this event via online workshop, “said Mrs Maharani closed her conversation.
