SURABAYA – The government through the Ministry of Manpower encourages sending professional workers (formal) abroad. This was done so that Indonesian experts could be more calculated and be able to compete with workers from other countries.
And one of the graduates from D3 Midwifery at Nahdlatul Ulama University of Surabaya (Unusa) proved it. 2017 graduate, Hikmah Pasanti is accepted to work at Dr. Sulaiman Al Habib Group Hospital, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Hikmah will go to Jakarta on Monday (1/20/2020) and immediately fly to the oil-rich country on Wednesday (1/22/2020).
Hikmah feels happy. This is her dream since childhood can be a health worker in Saudi Arabia. So, not only she can hone her skill, gets a much higher salary than in Indonesia, but also she can pray quietly. “Arabs is an Islamic country. Certainly there is time for us to pray. It is not like a non-Muslim country, surely there is not special time, “she said.
Therefore, when Hikmah receives the news that she is accepted as a doctor’s assistant, then she states that she is able to go there. “This is an opportunity that may not come twice and to everyone. So it must be accepted and passed, “she said.
However, it is apparently not an easy thing to accept the job. It takes a struggle, not only during the selection test but when asking for parents’ approval.
Hikmah gets information on vacancies from the alumni group. She tries to make a proposal. According to her this is a rare opportunity. Not unexpectedly she is contacted to attend training in Malang for a week. But it cannot be fulfilled because of a permit from the clinic where she works.
will Hikmah give up hope? No, she will not. fortunately, company which handle the selection gives an opportunity for Hikmah to attend online training. She is sent training materials in English. The material is given to be used as a purpose when interviewing. “It is a fortune for me,” said Hikmah.
The first daughter of three siblings, Ratna Azizah and Heriyadi, say they are lucky. The hospital in Indonesia call her to be able to take the test which is directly conducted by the director of the hospital.
“How enthusiastic I am, I immediately buy a train ticket without parents knowing. But when I want to go, my parents don’t approve of it. Finally I cancel to go to Jakarta. I have closed my desire to participate in the selection, “she said.
But, luckily, when the hope is gone, she is called the committee again. The committee asks whether they are still interested in participating in the selection. If they are still interested, they ask Hikmah to take an online test with the director of the hospital in Saudi Arabia.
By this online interview, her parents can also participate and see firsthand. So they know that the interview is not joke.
“Finally my parents bless me and I am declared as one of the fortunate people to work there. An extraordinary gift, “She said.
Hikmah shared her happy story with her junior class during the Job Fair event held by Unusa on Saturday (1/18/2020) at Cafe Fastron, Campus B. This Job Fair is held by Unusa for the first time as a means to bring together students, prospective graduates and the world of work.
Unusa’s Academic and Student Director, Umdatus Soleha says that for the inaugural event, nine companies in various fields will participate. Such as health, management, educational institutions and so on.
“This is part of the Unusa Career Center or UCC work program. And this is a form of our concern for students and alumni, “She said. (end / rud / public relations)
